Song Lyrics (all lyrics by Charley Farrell)
1. House
The ghosts of a family linger in the rooms
Their echoes take a final bow
Erasing memories from a dark empty tomb
They’re tearing down the house
Barren of children, stripped of friends
Emptied of lover or spouse
Only fingerprints left on thin wooden walls
They’re tearing down the house
Stripping skin from the flanks of its prey
You can hear the timbers screech and groan
The wrecking ball returns these walls to the clay
They’re tearing down the family home
The shadows of old photographs still mark the walls
Beside the stain of a headboard bed
You can almost hear my father’s angry call
Shouting back at them from the dead
The ashes fall, the dust has settled
The work of progress is done
The cornerstone toppled to the ground
The gears of change have won
The rooms cleansed now of blood and bone
The life inside long gone
The future will not leave the past alone
It’s tearing down my family home
They’re tearing down my family home
2. Odd Bedfellows
If a crocodile can be kissing a goose,
If a chicken can be dine out with a moose,
If a muskrat is licking fish in the sea,
Then there must be hope for you and me.
If a dish can run away with a spoon,
If the cow can make a pass at the moon,
If the kettle can forgive the name-calling pot,
Then you could learn to love me a lot.
If the pope falls in love with a funny hat,
If a violin purrs for the guts of a cat,
If a Muslim can make peace with a Jew,
Then surely I can fall in love with you.
If opposites always attract one another,
And difference builds up love for each other,
If you’re the even one, and I’m so odd,
Together, we’ll be better than an act of God.
If a beer can chase a whiskey shot,
If a house can find itself a lot,
If a body can catch a fatal disease,
Then you can catch me if I please.
If the head can catch a common cold,
If the Christian can find the one true fold,
If a bicycle can be made for two,
Than I can make my moves on you.
If the proverbial ointment can stick with the fly,
If the pig is happy with gkk in a sty,
If the party can last until the cows come home,
Then our love will last until we’re dead and gone.
If opposites always attract one another,
And difference builds up love for each other,
And if you’re the even one, and I’m so odd,
Together, we’ll be better than an act of God.
When opposite’s attract, just don’t look back.
My different ways will provide your life,
With everything that your life lacks.
3. Touch
Sometimes I think I’m wearing gloves,
Like an aging boxer, or someone feeling cold.
Sometimes I think I’m wearing gloves,
To keep my distance or weaken your hold.
But never by coincidence.
I’m merely building good defenses
I wonder what it would do
To feel my hands caressing you.
Sometimes I think I’m wearing mittens,
I’m all thumbs, my fingers disappear.
Sometimes I think I’m wearing mittens,
Feeling clumsy, whenever you're near.
So little contact, so much to fear.
You out of reach, me over here.
I wonder what it would do
To feel my hands caressing you.
Touch me, I won’t burn you.
Touch me, I won’t turn you away.
Touch me, and you’ll learn to
Touch my heart.
Lingering warm and unafraid,
Dancing lightly, full of play. `
I wonder what it would do
To feel my hands caressing you.
I wonder how it would be
To feel your fingers touching me.
4. Peculiar Man
I'm like a child
Whose bones are born
Too big for its skin
Changed from within
To the old man that I’ve been
So long
So many miles
On this bony frame,
Weighed down and yet so thin.
Still looking for a place for such a man to belong
Like an awkward teen
Whose feet are
Too big for his shoes
Tripping over words
Stepping on toes
Being confused
Like to shrink a size
Uncross my eyes, stop feeling so wrong
Just trying to find a good way for me to belong
I’m like a man
Whose odd ideas don’t
Fit in his brain
In the shadows of the yard
Dreaming at the sky
Of becoming a star
Feeling drained
The power too dark
For a light so strong
There’s no easy place in the world for such a man to belong
Gotta shrink my bones
Get new shoes
Rethink my head
Change my size
Rearrange inside
Remake my bed
Become a smaller tall, a thinner wide, a much shorter long
Make a universe where I’m allowed to forget this song
I'm like a child
Whose bones are born
Too big for its skin
Changed from within
To the old man that I’ve been
So long
So many miles
On this bony frame,
Weighed down with too much sin.
There’s no easy time
For a peculiar man to belong
No place for such a man to belong
5. Dreaming
I had a dream
In which I met a god
Who gave me fins to swim
And wings that flew
He helped me question
Everything I knew
I withdrew from fear
And reached out everywhere
I nestled into my bed
Cradling the dreams in my head as I lay sleeping
I had a dream
In which I met fate
And brought him a different future
Before it was too late
Before he settled my date
With destiny
Still measuring my state of mind
Still questioning me
I had a dream
In which I met myself
And remade the feet
On which I stood
So I could stride
Across whole planets
Driving defeat ahead of me
Into the dark, cold earth
Of time being
I have these dreams
Because when I’m awake
I struggle to swim
Against a stream I can’t control
Within this world
And within this life as I grow old
But in a dream
I travel streets of gold
And live forever
And live forever
I had a dream
That everything happened
Exactly the way
It had been foreseen
In my dream
6. Goodwill to Men
I’m a Goodwill fashion statement,
No style of my own,
Establish my identity,
Bringing a dead man's clothes into my home.
Shirts for a quarter, ties for a dime,
Two bucks a suit in any fashion line.
Belts for a bargain, shoes for free,
There’s just no telling who I plan to be.
Sometimes I dress like a disco king,
Or a Nehru jacket’s just the thing,
Some old bell bottoms that are really Mod,
Or saffron robes to look like God.
I’m a Goodwill junkie,
An artifact of history,
Walking in a dead man’s clothes,
While I remain a mystery.
Wearing another man’s image,
Living another man’s life.
I wonder if he owned a house,
Or loved a beautiful wife
Maybe someone famous,
Could be young or old,
Or maybe the unknown nobody
Who needs his story told.
Maybe a Liberace jacket,
A Don Ho lapel,
Or an Evil Knievil jumpsuit
That escaped the jaws of Hell.
Three piece suits here on Earth,
And Goodwill to men.
Need to be Ralph Lauren
Well, I’m back to the store again!
I’m a Goodwill junkie,
An artifact of history,
Walking in a dead man’s clothes,
While I remain a mystery.
No identity of my own.
Don’t wear a singular brand.
Bring Goodwill into my home
And reincarnate….Everyman
7. House of Abraham
An abandoned house when I was ten.
I’m older now than Abraham was then.
The floor was splintered like a broken home,
Shattered windows slicing up the moon
Carving out a reckless past,
An open wound amid the trash.
Ceilings split like aging skin,
Holding the past within.
The birthday cake still on the table,
Its surface shiny now like hardened wax.
The candles reach up from his altar
Before the chair in which young Isaac sat
The glasses filled with emptiness
The dishes ageless in the dust
A discolored carving knife
Deep red with ancient rust
Where are you, Abraham?
Where is your family now?
Was your love killed by blind belief?
Where are you, Isaac?
Who could be holier than thou?
What sacred debt was paid for so much grief?
Old newspapers whisper stories,
Quivering in the corners of the room
Reporting the house’s mysteries,
Revealed now by the thin light of the moon.
The roof is bowed beneath the weight
Of Abraham and Isaac’s fate,
The night air clear of Isaac’s words.
A trusting voice, barely heard.
What if this old and brittle floor
Had changed itself into a pile of bones?
What if a sacrificial ceiling
Became a peeling plane of severed skin?
Isaac was just a quiet kid
Who doted on his dad
An awkward boy whose father
Was the closest friend he had
Where are you, Abraham?
Where is your firstborn now?
Was stolen love too much for him to bear?
Where are you, Isaac?
Who could be holier than thou,
When Abraham offered you up to God in prayer?
8. Stop Look and Listen
There are times
When I don’t move.
Time doesn’t choose to stop,
But I do.
Lying in the grass
Under a sky so blue
Nobody knows what the details mean
But I do
I won’t make history
This I know for sure
My time means nothing to the world
But that’s not what it’s for
Add a grain of sugar to the water,
Put a thimbleful of water in a cup
Take a slow, sweet sip if you can
And you’ll learn to love again.
People in the world
Ain’t got a clue
They just can’t sit still
But I do
People always make
Such epic plans
The winners’ never quit
But I can
There are so many people
Who don’t know what to do
They don’t know how
To live in the details
But I do
Add a grain of sugar to the water,
Put a thimbleful of water in a cup
Take a slow, sweet sip if you can
And you’ll learn to love again.
There are times
When I don’t move.
Time doesn’t choose to stop,
But I do.
9. Night Planet
I sleepwalk across the earth at night,
Travelling through my dreams,
Shaping worlds as I go along
Where nothing’s what it seems.
Sometimes I rise above the ground,
Or float upon a breeze.
Sometimes I walk on the water,
Or breathe beneath the seas.
They say that night is full of fear
That the daylight will burn away
But for me, the heat of day is much harsher
It’s the nighttime that lets me play.
Just listen to the silence
That makes the stars in the sky so bright
Just waiting ‘til the weight of day is lifted
By the softness of the night.
If something’s burning underground,
That will surface by the light of day.
I open eyes in the palms of my hands
In my sleep, I steal away.
I ride a river running backwards
While the night caresses me
Floating back to childhood
Where my memories will keep me free.
Just listen to the silence
That makes the stars in the sky so bright
Just waiting ‘til the weight of day is lifted
By the softness of the night
I sleepwalk across the earth at night
Travelling through my dreams
Shaping worlds as I go along
With moonlit fields and streams.
10. No Fair
Hey, Baby, I’m losing my hair
Losing my looks

Hey, Baby, life just ain’t no fair
Holy Moly, I’m losing my teeth

Ain’t no fair, ain’t no fair
Losing my teeth, losing my hair
Hey Baby, life just ain’t no fair
Holy Shit, I’m losing my mind
Losing my friends
Using up time
Stolen life is an unforgivable crime
My body’s all crooked, just look at me
Crawling on the ground
On my hands and my knees
Hey, Baby, time’s taking me by degrees
Ain’t no fair, ain’t no fair
Losing my teeth, losing my hair
Hey Baby, life just ain’t no fair
Hey Baby, I’m losing my hair
My back’s all furry
But my pate is bare
Hey, Baby, life just ain’t no fair
11. Work Ethic
So put your feet on the ground.
Hold your head up high.
Don’t run away, don’t try to hide.
There are miles still to go before you die.
Keep your hands on the wheel.
Your eyes on the road.
Working hard no matter how you feel.
There’s no time to waste with death close on your heels
Don’t you look back on the life you’ve led
Don’t you wonder what you could have done instead
Don’t let those idle thoughts enter your head
There’s lots of work to do before you end up dead
Keep your nose close to the grindstone
Your eyes on the prize
Don’t fool yourself with childhood lies
There’s more work to do than you realize
Keep your feet in line, step by step,
Chest out, head forward, eyes straight ahead,
So no more lounging around in bed
There’s lots more to do before you drop dead
So don’t you look back on the life you’ve led
Don’t you wonder what you could have done instead
Don’t let those idle thoughts enter your head
There’s lots of work to do before you end up dead
So put your feet on the ground.
Hold your head up high.
Don’t run away, don’t try to hide.
There are miles still to go before you die.
12. Love Like Water
Sometimes love is as clear as a lake
Quiet, calm, yet majestic
Sparkling in the sun of the dawn’s daybreak
Roused by the fires of suggestion
But sometimes love is a rising river
Restless, slightly mad and wide awake
Shouting from its bed, alive at the mouth
Abandoning caution in her wake
Sometimes love is a sparkling stream
Alert and bright, always thinking
A steady flow that fulfills every dream
A source from which we can’t stop drinking
But sometimes love is as cruel as the ocean
Harsh, dark, distant and cold
Drowning out all sound in its salty tide
Pulling humbled ground to her folds
Sometimes love is a handful of water
Lifted gently to the lips
Tasted on the tongue before it slips through the fingers
Embraced like a lover’s kiss
Sometimes quiet as a mountain pool
Its water so sweet and free
Sometimes a lake, a river’s roar, a lively brook
And sometimes as deep as the sea.
13. Winner Take All
You are only number one
‘Til somebody beats you.
So do what you need to do
You have the freedom to cheat
You have the freedom to lie.
Who cares if what you say is true?
Play your cards close to your chest
Buy low, always sell high,
Be ready to switch after setting the bait.
Don't tell why
Winning is all that matters….
Kill or be killed, take or be taken.
Cheat or be cheated, beat or be beaten.
Buy or be bought, catch or be caught.
Shoot or be shot, pay a little, take a lot.
Abuse your power, use politics.
Never hesitate to play dirty tricks.
Toy with the stupid, kill the sick.
Lie to the innocent, be a prick.
Ignore the needs of the old.
Always cheat the poor.
Turn your back on the needy.
Show the losers to the door.
So don't forget your goal
Other people don't mean a thing to you.
They're just there to be bought or sold.
Winning is all that matters...
Forget about ethics, forget about morality
The bottom line is the only reality.
Take what you want, don't worry about sin.
Don't play the game unless you're sure to win.
Let the rich get richer, the small get smaller.
The big get a bigger share of the dollar.
Let your strategies take their toll.
Buy the lives of others, while you sell your soul.
Win or lose, you’ve got to choose.
It’s all up to you.
When the losers fall, it’s winner takes all.
Just do what you’ve got to do.
You are only number one
‘Til somebody beats you.
So take what you want
Do what you need to do.
You have the freedom to cheat
You have the freedom to lie
Who cares if what you say is true?
Winning is all that matters….
Winners never quit.
Quitters never win.
Winning is all that matters….

A steady flow that fulfills every dream
A source from which we can’t stop drinking
But sometimes love is as cruel as the ocean
Harsh, dark, distant and cold
Drowning out all sound in its salty tide
Pulling humbled ground to her folds
Sometimes love is a handful of water
Lifted gently to the lips
Tasted on the tongue before it slips through the fingers
Embraced like a lover’s kiss
Sometimes quiet as a mountain pool
Its water so sweet and free
Sometimes a lake, a river’s roar, a lively brook
And sometimes as deep as the sea.
13. Winner Take All
You are only number one
‘Til somebody beats you.
So do what you need to do
You have the freedom to cheat
You have the freedom to lie.
Who cares if what you say is true?
Play your cards close to your chest
Buy low, always sell high,
Be ready to switch after setting the bait.
Don't tell why
Winning is all that matters….
Kill or be killed, take or be taken.
Cheat or be cheated, beat or be beaten.
Buy or be bought, catch or be caught.
Shoot or be shot, pay a little, take a lot.
Abuse your power, use politics.
Never hesitate to play dirty tricks.
Toy with the stupid, kill the sick.
Lie to the innocent, be a prick.
Ignore the needs of the old.
Always cheat the poor.
Turn your back on the needy.
Show the losers to the door.
So don't forget your goal
Other people don't mean a thing to you.
They're just there to be bought or sold.
Winning is all that matters...
Forget about ethics, forget about morality
The bottom line is the only reality.
Take what you want, don't worry about sin.
Don't play the game unless you're sure to win.
Let the rich get richer, the small get smaller.
The big get a bigger share of the dollar.
Let your strategies take their toll.
Buy the lives of others, while you sell your soul.
Win or lose, you’ve got to choose.
It’s all up to you.
When the losers fall, it’s winner takes all.
Just do what you’ve got to do.
You are only number one
‘Til somebody beats you.
So take what you want
Do what you need to do.
You have the freedom to cheat
You have the freedom to lie
Who cares if what you say is true?
Winning is all that matters….
Winners never quit.
Quitters never win.
Winning is all that matters….
